?1580-1635 [Aodh Buidhe Mac an Bhaird; Hugh MacAnward]; member of Irish community at ST. Anthony’s, Louvain; followed example of Fr. Heribert Roseveyde, SJ, who copied manuscripts of saints lives at the end of the 16th century, establishing the tradition of the Bollandists; spurred by ‘robbery’ of the hagiokleptes Dempster, who compiled his Menologium Sanctorum Scottorum claiming Irish saints for Caledonia; appt. Guardian of St. Anthony’s, 1623; inspired John Colgan and Michael Ó Cléirigh, Patrick Fleming (Collectanea Sacra), [all q.v.] et al, in their works.
