Methods of Allocation

Given student enrolment for ENG504 during Semester 2 of 2006 in comparison to available staff numbers for supevision of same, a criterion has been worked out for the allocation of supervisors, as follows.

Suitability of the topic selected by the student to the specialism of the supervisor, as set out in the “Staff Research Area” listing;
Proximity of students' home residence to location of proposed supervision (i.e., Coleraine or Jordanstown);
Availability of supervisors within the student-staff quota for ENG504 calculated by the School of Languages & Literature.

This obviously involves a “fit” between all three factors, taken if possible in the above order of priority. Where an allocation based on this criterion is not agreed on the student’s part for any reason, another supervisor will be sought.
If, however, no such supervisor is available in the subject-area proposed for the dissertation, the student will be required to accept any arrangement for supervision decided by the Module Co-ordinator.
