1663-1755; bishop of Sodor; ed. TCD, BA, 1689; studied medicine; curate
of Newchruch, Kenyon, Lancashire, 1687-92; curate of Sodor and Man, 1697;
LLD, Lambeth, 1698; built new churches and estab. libraries; Principles
and Duties of Christianity, in English and in Manks (1707), being
the first book printed in Manx; came into conflict with Alexander Horne
and his successors, Floyd and Thomas Horton, over civil and ecclesiastical
authority, 1713; accepted office of artistes of reformed tropus in Moravian
church, 1749; collected workds (1781).
