1962- ; late-born dg. Jack White [q.v.] and his wife Edna; completed TCD MLitt. dissertation on Sylvia Plath and the Body (1987); became an Irish Times journalist; Raving Autumn and Other Stories (1990); appt. Arts Editor, 1997; m. Eamon Ryan, Green Party TD for South Dublin and later coalition Minister with Fianna Fáil, with 4 children; she issued Mother Ireland: Why Ireland Hates Motherhood (2010).

Rearing: writes in The Irish Times (Letters): ‘To Carmel Courtney (Nov. 24th) who says rearing children “cannot be described as mentally stimulating by any stretch of the imagination”, I would say only this: your imagination does not stretch far enough. Yours, &c.” (Ashfield Rd., Dublin 6.)

Eamon Ryan: ed. Gongaza and UCD (Commerce); opened bike business on Gardiner St., Dublin; fnd. Safari Cycles; coopted to Dublin City Council, 1998; elected for South Dublin, 2002; went forward for Presidency, 2004, but withdrew when Mary McAleese affirm intention of re-standing; re-elected 2007; established Green Party TD for South Dublin and Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, 2007, withdrawing from the coalition with Fianna Fail, 23 Jan. 2011; failed to be re-elected for S. Dublin, Feb. 2011.
