George Thomas

Life
1756-1802; ‘Rajah from Tipperary’; b. on small farm, Roscrea; British sailor, deserted at Madras, and established himself as rajah of wide territory following his service as commander of army to Begum of Sirdhana and then Appa Roa, Muhratta gov. of Meerut, on the death of the latter in 1797; finally deposed by French assisting the Sikhs; died of fever at Bahrampur, Bengal, 22 Aug., planning to return to Ireland.
