Life
1865-1922; journalist and newspaper baron; b. Chapelizod, ed Henley House;
founded Answers to Correspondents, later Answer, catering
to new popular audience, 1888, with assistance from his brother, Lord
Rothermere; bought the London Evening News, 1894; launched Daily
Mail, 1896, and then Sunday Dispatch and Daily Mirror.
Bought The Times in 1908. He was a bye-word for the autocratic
newspaper man, and the first newspaper emperor, operating through the
