Anthony William Durnford

Life
1830-1879; b. Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim; Royal Mil. Acad., Woolwich, 1846; sevice in Ceylon [Shri Lanka], Malta, home stations, and S. Africa; killed at Rorke’s Drift with all his men, 22 Jan. 1879 in the Zulu war; disapproved of policy towards natives, with whom he was popular. DIB
