Born Cullen [Cologne?], Germany; traveller, linguist to Lord Falkland; obtained grants in Westmeath and Wexford, 1622; knighted, 1627; composed Irish dictionary, grammar and chronology, completed by his son Matthew, 1635. ODNB.
